<Hello, World!> : WITTY Tech Webinars by The <wit> Project

<Hello, World!>

During this time of great uncertainty, we want to formally introduce ourselves to you.

We are The WIT Project, an organization formed to empower both female-identifying students at the beginning of their collegiate educations and non-profits, who are so often left behind by the technology boom.

Both of us are minority women from non-traditional technology backgrounds. Our road to becoming technology professionals was not clear cut and has crossed paths with programs that uplift women into tech and non-profits whose mission is often achieved without technology.

Over the past two months, we have embarked on our first journey of bridging the gap between students and non-profits. Our first cohort consists of six CUNY students of all different STEM majors and colleges. With them, we have begun a project for our first program partner YearUp. Our programming for the students has entailed many workshops into the fundamentals of coding an application. In getting to know our students and the challenges they’re facing, we have realized the broader need students have for guidance through technology fundamentals.

This is why we have made the decision to open The WIT Project up to EVERYONE interested in getting started in tech! Starting on April 8th at 7:00 pm, we will be hosting 5 weeks of webinars to help engage people wanting to learn more. We hope we can build-out a community of people interested in creating new pipelines for young women in tech while also doing social good!!!

Our webinar schedule will be as follows:

  1. Intro to Django  - April 9th

  2. Intro to GitHub and Linux Commands - April 15th

  3. Intro to Web Development  - April 22nd

  4. Intro to Data Science - April 29th

  5. Intro to React - May 6th
